Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre provides more than just concert experiences; it is an unforgettable Colorado journey. Hiking trails wind around towering sandstone monoliths while there is also an exceptional museum on site and summer Film on the Rocks events hosted by this site.

Acoustics of this striking landscape adds an incredible dimension to any act at the venue, but do be wary that its high elevation and weather may diminish sound quality, particularly in higher rows.

History

Red Rocks Amphitheatre stands out among iconic concert venues for being geologically formed by surrounding red rocks, making it a breathtaking natural marvel that is an essential stop on any visit to Colorado. World-renowned artists have graced its stages since it became a National Historic Landmark more than 60 years ago.

19th-century locals would gather here to attend performances organized by John Brisben Walker, who established it as an outdoor concert venue. However, construction of an amphitheater took place only in 1936 with Civilian Conservation Corps members creating one from 25,000 cubic yards of dirt and stone.

Since that time, numerous pop-culture superstar musicians have graced this legendary rock venue, many making an unforgettable impression at its legendary rock concerts. Unfortunately not everything went smoothly: Aretha Franklin fans caused a riot that eventually resulted in a seven-year ban (removed in 1980). Still most visitors feel that no matter who is performing; simply experiencing this awe-inspiring space makes for an unforgettable evening experience.

Seating

Red Rocks concert events offer an unforgettable experience you’ll never want to miss. As this iconic outdoor venue sits 6000+ feet in elevation, concert goers must come prepared with adequate lung power when ascending their seats – they will not want to miss this breathtaking journey!

Red Rocks Amphitheater boasts 70 rows of head-on seating that can hold up to 10,000 guests, so if you plan on attending an event here we recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time – the ticket prices at Red Rocks vary depending on whether it’s general admission or reserved seating.

Be mindful that the parking lot at this venue is quite far away from its entrance; give yourself enough time to reach it before showtime. There’s also no re-entry, so once inside stay for the duration!

Food & Drink

Red Rocks is more than an incredible concert venue; it is a breathtaking park filled with miles of hiking trails and cinnamon-hued sandstone cliffs. Plan a day trip here to soak up nature and take advantage of Ship Rock Grille, located inside Red Rocks visitor center for pre-show dining before hitting up any show at Red Rocks!

On-site food and beverage options range from gourmet hotdogs from Biker Jim’s, classic barbecue from Rolling Smoke BBQ, fried foods such as funnel cakes from Wyly’s Fried Foods, and even alcohol for purchase during concerts (but valid ID will be needed to purchase).

Bring along your water bottle as factory sealed beverages are permitted into venues and bottled water is often sold at concerts. Be mindful that Coke might not make it past security; but cold water always welcome! Don’t forget a warm layer; Colorado evenings can still get quite cool at night, especially with breezes sweeping up stairs!

Getting There

Red Rocks is an essential experience for music fans. Make sure that a responsible driver is part of your party and arrive early for parking; if possible, try carpooling to reduce costs.

Once parked, be prepared for a short hike! Upper North is often preferred due to requiring the fewest stairs; if that lot is full then Lower North would be your second best bet.

One fantastic way to enjoy both a concert and its environment is tailgating prior to it. Tailgating is an enjoyable and communal way to experience concerts while creating lasting memories with others. Keep in mind that Red Rocks Amphitheatre does not offer public transportation – make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water – plus perhaps pack a camera (unless prohibited by the show), small point and shoot cameras are allowed; however GoPros or tablets should not.
