Jesse Cole had dreams of pitching in the Major Leagues as he grew up, but instead found an alternative way of playing baseball in Savannah, Georgia where his Bananas have made Banana Ball their own unique form of the sport. They recently came through Syracuse for a sold-out tour with this distinctive brand of play that makes baseball fun again!

This team, which won both of the Coastal Plain League championships between 2016 and 2021, plays an exciting and entertaining style of baseball that’s caught fans’ imaginations – over 600,000. people were on their waitlist this week alone!

An essential element of the Bananas’ appeal lies in their players’ chemistry; each player genuinely loves being part of this team, and fans respond enthusiastically. Players interviewed by The Guardian seemed not only content but even thrilled to be playing for this club; that joy has helped bring baseball back to life for a new generation of fans.

Social media has been instrumental to the Bananas’ success. They understand how to generate buzz by sparking discussions, sharing captivating visual content and working with influencers who spread word of their brand of baseball. Furthermore, the Bananas take great care in giving fans nonstop entertainment from the moment they step foot into the ballpark; including Maceo’s breakdancing first base coach (with convulsions while dancing to Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”) and senior dance team (“the Banana ‘Nanas”) plus walk-up performances by each batter as well as elaborate walk up performances from every batter (for every batter).

The team strives to make it as easy as possible for fans to access the ballpark, even offering free tickets for kids who can prove their parents are watching them online. And for those unable to attend live action at the ballpark, the Bananas boast an active online presence via their website and YouTube channel.

Banana Ball may appear silly, but there are numerous moments when players showcase impressive baseball skills. For instance, Ryan Cox of the Bananas fielded a ball and waved it off from a runner at first base before throwing him out to record their third out. Meanwhile Dakota Albritton is capable of making circus-like catches in the outfield or golfing balls into cheap seats for three outs to secure another win for their team.
