Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre stands as one of the world’s premiere outdoor concert venues, nestled into its breathtaking natural formation and drawing crowds from around the globe to witness musical legends perform there. On non-concert days, the park comes alive with locals exercising or simply admiring its breathtaking surroundings.

John Brisben Walker began inviting musicians to perform at Red Rocks during the early 1900s on a temporary stage that lay between Ship Rock and Creation Rock. By 1928 he persuaded Denver city council to purchase Red Rocks for $54,133, hiring Denver architect George Cranmer as amphitheatre designer; his plan took advantage of its natural acoustics, featuring continental seating without an aisle and featuring no center aisle – an important innovation at that time! CCC enrollees and volunteers helped construct Red Rocks during its construction period.

Red Rocks was always a top goal for musicians and fans alike; musicians aspired to perform there while fans dreamt of seeing them perform there. Many legendary acts such as U2, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, John Denver Fleetwood Mac and Bob Dylan came through Red Rocks, making their dream a reality and it still continues attracting top talent today.

Red Rocks isn’t all music and magic though; in recent decades the venue has experienced its share of drama. Crowd control is top priority at Red Rocks; multiple night runs may be required in order to prevent gate crashing and riots from breaking out, while alcohol consumption is strictly regulated and various cut-off points have been set in place in order to keep crowds safe and satisfied.

Food and drinks may be enjoyed in picnic areas surrounding the amphitheatre, with limited re-entry passes made available for those holding tickets for future shows, plus concessions throughout. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, soft-sided coolers, non-alcoholic beverages (32 ounces or under), empty reusable bottles, seat cushions and blankets when dining at this amphitheater; amplified sound, pets or rock climbing are not permitted within its premises.

Amphitheatre events range from concerts to yoga and hikes, film screenings and screenings of classic movies under the stars during Film on the Rocks events held annually during summer months. Weddings and special celebrations also make use of this venue. It has become a favorite spot for wedding ceremonies. Additionally, wedding receptions take place here as well.
