ENHYPEN

At present, K-pop boy bands are flourishing like never before, with its biggest names enjoying massive commercial success in one of the most competitive music markets ever and selling out Tokyo Dome shows just three years after debuting. But none has gained as fast traction on the scene than ENHYPEN; formed through I-Land (a Making the Band-style reality show) in 2020 and making their debut appearance that November, they quickly earned themselves “Rookie of the Year” honors at major Korean award shows.

After two more years, ENHYPEN finally cracked the top 10 album charts and is now widely recognized on an international stage with four albums, two repackage projects, an arena tour under their belts.

That doesn’t mean the group is resting on its laurels; rather, Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon Sunoo and Ni-ki are using this momentum to continue expanding and connecting with new audiences.

The band‘s name, composed of Korean letters for an en dash and hyphen, encapsulates their desire to connect, discover and grow together as members. Furthermore, its repetition echoes their individual journeys into fame – each of them has achieved success through hard work and focused study; now, they bring this same determination and resilience into everything they do.

DARK BLOOD is ENHYPEN’s sophomore release and an evolution from BORDER: DAY ONE in both musical style and complexity. From its synth and reggae-influenced title track to haunting beats and bass of ‘Fate,’ DARK BLOOD proves their maturity as artists while exploring some of the challenges inherent to rising to prominence. From its title track to haunting beats and bass of ‘Fate,’ ENHYPEN have clearly grown from being fledgling hopefuls into industry veterans over time.

Bills is an EP highlight, featuring lo-fi hip-hop beats and sensibly pitched vocals from its members; serving as an indie third sibling to feel-good hits like ‘Polaroid Love’ and ‘TFW (That Feeling When). Finally, closing track ‘Karma’ showcases ENHYPEN at their finest: it reinvents last year’s “Shout Out” into an infectious radio ballad which should find plenty of new listeners thanks to its catchiness alone.
